Here's another fun, free, local activity - Bowling. Sign up online for 2 free games per day at your local AMF Bowling Alley. Share some friendly competition with friends and family. (Shhh, don't tell the kids they will be getting exercise and learning math as they tally their scores)
Pick Your Own
Have you ever picked your own fruits or vegetables? Why not visit a farm and collect fresh and delicious in season fruits and/or veggies. The attached link to www.pickyourown.org will show you where to go and what's in season. Kids of all ages will not only learn about the importance of healthy eating habits, the joy of picking your own foods to bring home and create your on meals, but also about the local agriculture and the importance of keeping our environment healthy.

Libraries
Miami-Dade County has a very nice library system. The website has a special kids section which includes library programs, homework help and just for fun among others. One of my favorites for the kids is TumbleBooks which is an online collection of animated, talkingpicture books in English and otherlanguages, reading comprehension quizzes, games and other resources for children and families that may be used without downloading. All you need is your library card.
The website also offers "Teen Zone" which allows teens to browse and download music, homework help, S.M.A.R.T. - Science Math And Reading Tutoring.
South Florida Parenting
I find this magazine to be an incredible source of information. In addition to the various articles on parenting, money saving ideas, schools and almost anything child or family themed there is always a calendar of activities in the back. It is categorized by Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties. You always know what's new and available in the tri-county area. I have also added a link to the Kid's Fun Pass that the magazine offers. For $12.95 per child the pass entitles each cardholder to free admission ( usually with 1 paying adult ) to most major attractions in the tri-county area as well as many smaller places to visit.

Word Search
I thought this was a cool idea to have kids participate in just about any activity you do.
Make your own word search! I have used this idea to give hints to my kids before we head out to our destination of the day. It definitely adds excitement.
You can also reverse roles and have the kids prepare one for you.
